Alvin and the Chipmunks, a live-action–CG film that revolves around the trio of singing chipmunks and their pal, Dave, who adopts the three brothers. American Son, a drama that revolves around a young man who is about to be shipped out to Iraq. Before leaving he returns to his hometown, discovers he has outgrown his friends, and falls in love. The Dark is Rising, based on the 1973 novel by Susan Cooper, about an 11-year-old boy who discovers that he is the last member of a group of immortal humans dedicated to fighting the forces of evil. The Express, based on the 1983 book Ernie Davis: The Elmira Express, the Story of a Heisman Trophy Winner, which tells the story of the first black man to win the Heisman Trophy who was subsequently diagnosed with leukemia and never got to play professional football. In the Electric Mist With Confederate Dead, based on the detective novel of the same name by James Lee Burke. Tommy Lee Jones will portray the Cajun detective Dave Robicheaux. Iron Man, a superhero story that centers on a billionaire weapons manufacturer who confronts his past after being wounded by one of his weapons. He equips himself with a high-tech suit of armor and becomes Iron Man to combat evil. Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard star. Jon Favreau is directing. The Midnight Meat Train, a horror film based on the 1985 short story by Clive Barker about a New York photographer who attempts to track down "the subway butcher." Bradley Cooper stars. The Mist, a horror film based on a Stephen King short story of the same name that takes place in a small town the day after a mysterious storm. A group of townspeople find themselves trapped in a local supermarket besieged by strange, deadly creatures that arrived with the storm. Frank Darabont wrote the screenplay and is directing. The Ruins, a screen adaptation of the novel by Scott Smith (A Simple Plan) that follows a group of friends who encounter evil in the jungles of Mexico. Carter Smith is directing. Synecdoche, New York, the story of a theatre director who believes that he's dying, and how it affects his life, his work, and relationships. Tropic Thunder, a comedy about the making of a big-budget war movie where all goes wrong and the actors wind up becoming the commandos they are playing. Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld are producing. Wanted, based on a comic book series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones about a man who discovers that his long-lost father is an assassin. After his father's murder, the man is recruited into a secret organization and trained to follow in his father's footsteps. What Just Happened?, based on the 2002 book What Just Happened? Bitter Hollywood Tales From the Front Line by Art Linson that revolves around a movie producer going through two weeks of hell getting his picture made. 22 Birthdays, a drama for CBS that revolves around a group of elite and powerful families in Los Angeles who regularly gather at birthday parties for their children. The Beast, a multicamera workplace comedy for Fox that centers on a womanizing veterinarian who hates animals but loves his job's perks. The Bionic Woman, a two-hour pilot for NBC that reimagines the 1970s show about a woman whose body is mechanically enhanced to save her life. Fort Pit, a one-hour drama with comedic elements for NBC that revolves around a police precinct in one of the worst, most crime-ridden districts in Brooklyn, based on the real-life experiences of former NYPD cop Robert Cea.
