Even though the Gregorian calendar year starts on Jan. 1, the astrological new year begins on the spring equinox in March. In a way, this ancient method of marking time feels more intelligent: flowers are starting to bloom, new growth is happening before our eyes. This year the symbolism is doubly potent as we’ll also be coming up on the one-year mark of lockdown in the United States. This anniversary will happen when the sun is still in Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac containing the wisdom of all the signs that came before it. The first three weeks of March are about endings, synthesis, and integration. Pisces will hold space for our big feelings and help us grieve everything we lost last year. When the sun moves into Aries on March 20, it will usher in a new chapter.

The last two months have felt like 2020 the sequel. Luckily, the astrology of March is much lighter. Venus has already entered Pisces, a sign that enables her to do what she does best: connect. On both the new moon on March 13 and the full moon on March 28, Venus will be infusing a little extra sweetness into our intentions. As the personal planets (the sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars) move away from last month’s activating conjunctions and harsh squares with Saturn and Uranus, they’re going to be influenced by the more forgiving planet, Neptune. This could make us susceptible to idealism, delusion, and confusion—but the positive potential is compassion and connection with our higher selves.

Neptune and Pisces both put us in touch with the wisdom of the collective, and Aries is about the self. As the sign that follows Pisces, Aries springs forth from the murky realm of myth and symbolism to make its mark on the world. The more specific you are, the more universal your work becomes. Tell the story that is yours and yours alone.

Remember to read your rising sign and your sun sign.

Pisces (Feb. 19–March 20)

Pisces, you are the ocean. You are vast, enigmatic, and home to alien organisms. People come to you for lighthearted fun and deep contemplation—but no one ever asks how the ocean is feeling. It just is. Your openness makes you a genius at connecting but impossible to nail down. You would sooner self-combust than enforce a boundary or stick to someone else’s schedule. This month, just be you. Embrace your dreaminess and your internal flow. If you’re feeling the need to escape, make sure you’re getting lost in something you genuinely love. Floating on your back can get you further than swimming against the tide.

Aries (March 21–April 19)

This is a pivotal month, Aries. You’re doing a lot of work behind the scenes that feels completely separate from the image you’re putting out into the world. Even though you might make it look easy, you’re undergoing a shift that requires a lot of internal processing. Take the alone time your body is craving. Stop doing and just be. Stare out the window. Drink a lot of water. You’ll be ready to step into the spotlight on March 28, but the way you show up has radically transformed over the last six months. Your healing journey (past, present, ongoing) gives you empathy and authenticity that can never be manufactured.

Taurus (April 20–May 20)

Are you feeling the love from your community? Pisces season dissolves the boundary between you and your friends and magnetizes the people who make you feel good about yourself. Release comparison, welcome in collaboration. There’s an alchemy that happens when creative people get inspired by each other, but think outside the Google doc. Go on a hike. Do a group sound bath. Use the energy of the collective to fuel your personal projects. On the full moon on March 28, whatever has been marinating in your creative incubator will require your full attention. Listen and it will tell you where it wants to go.

Gemini (May 21–June 20)

You’re ready to take action, Gemini. With Mercury out of its retro-shade and Mars moving into your sign, you’re firing on all cylinders. There will be moments when it feels like life isn’t keeping up with your internal pace. Take this as an invitation to enjoy the sweetness that is occurring in your career. Even if you’re not exactly where you want to be, even if you don’t have all the information, some of the obstacles that were holding you back before are slowly dissolving. See if you can get out of your head and take pleasure in the not-knowing. You’re an artist. You’re supposed to get lost in the fantasy from time to time.

Cancer (June 21–July 22)

You’re going places: literally and metaphorically. First, the new moon in Pisces has you feeling ready to explore new horizons. Sometimes a change of scenery can radically change your perspective. What retreats do you want to take when the world opens up for good? What new stories are trying to make themselves known to you? Allow yourself to feel around in the questions that don’t have easy answers. Once you’ve taken a bird’s eye view, you can come back down to earth with a more holistic approach to your career. Get comfortable with being misunderstood. The less energy you spend trying to cover up your pain, the more you’ll shine.

Leo (July 23–Aug. 22)

March is making it hard to see how your worth fits into the bigger picture. There’s no denying you have something valuable to offer. The question is, where will your talents be most appreciated? If you find yourself at a crossroads this month, you’ll get further listening to your intuition than making a pros and cons list. Try to imagine yourself in each situation. Notice how it feels in your body. It doesn’t have to be agonizing—it can be as simple as checking the lane next to you before merging. See if there’s enough room to accommodate the person you’re becoming and adjust your pace accordingly.

Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 21)

March is bringing an extra dose of sweetness to your one-on-one relationships. Your naturally discerning nature gets a rare peek through Pisces’ rose-colored glasses. Take the month off from trying to predict outcomes or analyze your feelings. You won’t be much good at it anyway. Delight in being with your person. Share your pain and your joy with those who have earned the right to see it. When you only focus on your failings, you’re not “being realistic” or “telling it like it is.” You’re denying yourself the love that you so freely give to others. Choosing to see the best in others gives you permission to be kinder to yourself.

Libra (Sept. 22–Oct. 22)

This month, administrative tasks are overwhelming. You might be saying “what’s the point” about anything that feels like adulting—even if it’ll be good for you in the long run. But if anyone knows how to bring beauty to the daily grind, it’s you. What rituals can ease your resistance? How can you create a vibe that makes your chores a little less unpleasant? The full moon in your sign on March 28 is an opportunity for radical healing. Trust your body to tell you what it needs and de-emphasize what social media says you “should” be doing. It’s OK if it takes you a little longer to get things done. Be present and patient with yourself.

Scorpio (Oct. 23–Nov. 21)

Pisces season wants you to get back in touch with your childlike sense of wonder. This month, let go of the setbacks, the disappointments, and the stories you’ve been telling yourself. You have a clean slate. Pay attention to the insights that seem to come from nowhere. Let the impulse to create move through you without judgment. When the full moon in Libra comes around, it will force you to face whatever you’ve been avoiding. That work project you’ve been putting off, the dentist appointment you need to make, that thing your friend said that bugged you: all the detritus in your mind adds up and needs an outlet. Start with the self-care you actually enjoy and go from there.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22–Dec. 21)

This time last year, you were coming into a deeper understanding of your home and family life. This month is going over the same territory to see what you’ve learned. Do you have a newfound appreciation for the simple pleasures, like staying in and reading a book? Is the way you care for yourself different now than it was a year ago? Have compassion for the road that brought you here, even when it was confusing and disorienting. Be thankful for the lessons that were disguised as failures. Let go of the situations that were out of your control. As the full moon on March 28 approaches, your creativity is becoming even more fertile and generative.

Capricorn (Dec. 22–Jan. 19)

If you like having a clear idea of where you’re going, this month will be a lesson in how to move forward with incomplete information. You don’t have to have the answers. Create a container for the people you trust and share what you do know. The energy of Pisces is about fully receiving the wisdom that others have to offer—what you actually learn is less important. The full moon on March 28 is asking you to release your grip around your core wound and what you do to protect it. The battles we know how to fight feel less dangerous than experimenting with softness. Try being a warrior of compassion, tenderness, and love.

Aquarius (Jan. 20–Feb. 18)

This month wants you to get curious about your relationship to abundance. Let go of the idea that once you reach a certain income bracket, that’s when you’ll stop worrying about what you don’t have. Having an abundance mindset goes deeper than money. Giving and receiving compliments—that’s abundance. Sending people at the grocery store love instead of annoyance—also abundance. Every single person you come across is carrying some form of pain and just trying their best. Including you. Feeling into that fact allows you to treat yourself with compassion the next time you screw up. Self-love requires imagination and imagination is the ultimate replenishing resource.
