Happy May! This month is all about the mutable signs. Most people know about the four elements in astrology—earth, water, fire, and air signs—but the zodiac is also categorized according to modalities. Cardinal signs initiate change, projects, and new ideas, fixed signs take those ideas and develop them, and mutable signs refine, edit, and synthesize. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces (the mutable signs) have an innate ability to see problems and perspectives from multiple vantage points, a gift that can manifest as flexibility or flakiness. This is the pervasive energy this month as the personal planets move into Gemini and a total lunar eclipse occurs in Sagittarius on May 26. The month’s most exciting signature happens on May 13 when Jupiter moves into Pisces—an event astrologers have been looking forward to all year.
Jupiter represents optimism, expansion, and abundance, but this planet has been in a bit of a rut since late 2019 (this should be surprising to no one). In Capricorn and Aquarius, Jupiter just hasn’t been able to do its best work. But all that is about to change. From May 13 to July 29, Jupiter will be in its home sign of Pisces. As the largest planet, Jupiter can really stretch its legs in the boundless ocean of Pisces, granting us the spaciousness to dream big and manifest our desires.
But let’s not forget—it’s still Taurus season! Taurus is about creating the right environment for growth. It might take a Taurus a long time to find fertile soil, adjust the temperature, and settle into the spot that gets the perfect light. But once they’re firmly planted, they stay in their lane. When the sun moves into Gemini on May 20, we’re going to feel a shift towards pollination. Think of Gemini like a busy bee, zipping from one flower to the next, both collecting and distributing data. Gemini asks us not to be so precious with our work. Share it, ask for feedback, and watch it bloom. But get your message out before Mercury goes retrograde on May 29.
Remember to read your rising and sun signs.

Happy Taurus season! You’re feeling yourself this month: trying on new identities for size and flinging off the ones that no longer fit. This is a process of remembering your power. You can create the life you want through sheer force of will. When Venus moves into Gemini starting on May 8, you might be more inclined than usual to indulge in retail therapy. Keep an eye on your budget. There’s more than one way to treat yourself. This summer wants you to tap into your network. Visualize your hopes and dreams for the future, and notice who’s with you. For the next two and a half months, nothing is beyond your reach.
This month is about emergence. As Mercury, Venus, and the sun move into Gemini, they leave the shadowy realm of your subconscious and step into the light. This is an opportunity to start again. What did you learn during your sabbatical? What will you do with your fresh slate? The time you spend working on yourself is never wasted. Knowing yourself inside and out breeds confidence, and that confidence will set you up for the right opportunities this summer. It’s hard to allow yourself spaciousness in an industry with such a baked-in scarcity mentality. But trust that you’ve laid the groundwork in your career. What’s meant for you will come.
May wants you to cultivate the energy and ideas bouncing around your network. Spread your seeds and say yes more than you normally would. Then channel the collective energy into your creative incubators. Share what you’ve created with your group of artists. Lather, rinse, repeat. This summer is going to broaden your horizons. If you don’t have a teacher or mentor right now, think about how you can be your own generous guide, your own loving parent. Create enough structure to make you feel supported. Give yourself an excessive amount of encouragement, praise, and compassion. Be open to weird and magical sources of inspiration. What worlds can you travel to when you don’t have any distractions?
You’ve got your eyes on the prize. As you cultivate your career this month, make sure you’re getting in front of the right people. Pull in conversations from your friends, coworkers, and broader network. Talk to someone who’s been where you want to be and be honest about where you’re struggling. People get invested in you when you let them see your humanness because everyone has faced obstacles. Everyone has felt like they’re not enough. With Jupiter bringing optimism and hard-won wisdom to your healing process, this summer is about getting raw and real. You can’t transform if you’re focused on presentation. A redemption narrative is a thousand times more interesting than perfection.
People look to you as a source of knowledge and inspiration. You’re wrapping up some important long-term projects this month, some of which might have felt like a detour from what you normally do. That’s OK—zigging when everyone else zags is what sets you apart. Around mid-May, reflect on what you’ve learned from your diversions, and notice who’s along for the ride. How can you get the right people on your side? What strategic alliances do you need to pay closer attention to? This summer is about expanding your one-on-one relationships into something that feels generative, loving, and even easy. Let the dam break and the waters of connection flow freely.
This month, you’re ready for release. You’re still doing deep work and hard self-examination for the first two weeks of May. But as the sun, Mercury, and Venus move into friendly Gemini (a fellow air sign), they bring a feeling of liberation. You know there’s still quite a journey ahead of you, but for a moment, you’re on the other side of a chasm staring back at the person you used to be. This summer, Jupiter is bringing healing and compassion to your work projects and daily routines. What used to seem impossible feels a little easier. Progress is never linear, but the experience of relief and ease is what all the painful transformation was for.
May is about plumbing the depths. As a Scorpio, this is your comfort zone: you’re not shy about staring darkness squarely in the face. Picking your scabs is a favorite pastime, but an open wound can fester. This summer is about intentional unearthing—taking what you find and doing something creative, expressive, or romantic with it. Bring in the darkness and the light, the seriousness and the joy. They each have their place in your art and your life. Experiment with being a little less precious and a little more playful. Protecting your heart has diminishing returns. Life really begins when you allow yourself—your whole self—to be seen.
Relationships take work and that work starts with you. You’re currently purging the parts of your identity that are no longer serving you and that process is going to show up in your partnerships. This month is about putting systems in place that will make your creative collaborations flow more naturally. What conversations can you have now that will prevent misunderstandings in the future? Doing a little bit of routine maintenance can go a long way. This summer is going to open up the most private, deeply entrenched part of your life. If you’re willing to explore your origin story with more compassion, it will be a gift. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
You know how to play the long game better than anyone. But you don’t get extra credit for taking the most difficult route. This month is about getting granular—put your five-year plan to the side for a minute and focus on the commitments that are right in front of you. How can you protect your time and energy? Which resentments stem from flimsy boundaries? This summer is going to be about creating more spaciousness in your day-to-day life. Owning your schedule is a form of abundance. Rituals are not a luxury or a hack to make you more productive at work. Their power comes from making a promise to yourself and then keeping it.
Get your creative juices flowing—this month shifts the focus from the internal to the external. If you haven’t felt inspired for the last year, you’re not alone. Mining your past can only get you so far. We need new experiences, people, conversations, love, and art to spark our excitement. Even if it feels too soon, put yourself out there. Discomfort breeds growth and opportunity. This summer is inviting you to trust your inherent talents and attract the right resources. Hold space for new revenue streams and recognition. How could the flow of money be easier? How can you stop doing things you hate and start trusting that someone wants the exact thing you have to offer?
Your gift for storytelling will go a long way this month. You’re using your voice and raising flags when something feels off. The people around you feel the love from your regular check-ins, but a mid-month shift asks you to turn that care back on yourself. Part of growing up is untangling the legacies of your parents and societal conditioning from what is yours alone. What’s the new story you want to write? This summer promises to be a delicious one, as long as you put yourself first. You can take up space and still be generous. Nothing is holding you back from being the person you want to be. The first step is believing you’re already there.
May is about cultivating your inner abundance. If your self-worth is determined by how much you produce, you’re playing a losing game. At the same time, your talent deserves to be shared. Trust the good feelings that seem to come from nowhere without worrying about how long they’ll stick around. As Mercury, Venus, and the sun move into Gemini, your life will start to feel very busy. Before you overcommit, ask yourself which projects feel aligned and grounded, and which ones will be energetic black holes. Build time into your schedule to space out, to create, and to follow your internal rhythms. This summer, pay attention to your dreams and subconscious desires. You may find wisdom through nontraditional routes.
