Fall is upon us and that means one thing: Hollywood is waking up from its summer slumber. Get ready for the previews, premieres, pilots, and more with a slate of screenings, Q&As, and the opportunity to supercharge your career with all the goodness Los Angeles has to offer.

Familiarize yourself with fall’s TV offerings.
What’s a premiere L.A. event that anyone in the know (or anyone wanting to be) looks forward to every year? PaleyFest Fall TV Previews at the Paley Center (Sept. 6–16). Attendees can join the casts of some of the biggest television shows—with Emmy-lusting stars in their eyes—before the fall premiere season kicks off. From network favorites ABC and the CW, to streaming disruptors Netflix and Hulu, screenings from them and other major players abound at this year’s PaleyFest. Come prepared with questions for the folks both in front and behind the camera of these white-hot programs. Guests include Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cedric the Entertainer, Aaron Paul, Sarah Silverman, and more. ($20)

Head to the Valley for a film festival.
What genre inspires you? Horror? Drama? Sci-fi? Stories based on true events? No matter your bag, the Burbank International Film Festival has the latest and greatest world premieres and buzzy flicks in this year’s lineup (now through Sept. 9). L.A. loves a film fest, and BIFF is one of the city’s most precious hidden gems; it’s also a fabulous way to familiarize yourself with all the up-and-coming film trends. (Prices vary by event)

Get a preview of Hulu’s new, out-of-this-world drama.
Space travel is having a major cinematic renaissance at the moment, and one show bringing the galaxy to the small screen is Beau Willimon’s follow up to “House of Cards”: “The First,” Hulu’s new drama centered on a group of astronauts attempting to pioneer life on Mars. Experience it before its streaming debut on Sept. 11 when SAG Foundation presents a screening of this upcoming ensemble show starring Sean Penn, followed by a conversation with co-stars Natascha McElhone and Anna Jacoby-Heron. (Free for SAG-AFTRA members)

Get in the room with the casting director behind “Grey’s Anatomy.”
We’re telling you about this event a bit early, because you don’t want to miss the chance to ask prolific Hollywood casting director Jamie Castro (“Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy”) anything and everything about how to land that dream role (and why you didn’t book the last one). Enjoy a night of networking, industry talks, free food, drinks, and guacamole, not to mention a whole lot of perks (discounts on everything from headshots to reel production) as you mingle with your Hollywood community on Sept. 13. And, as a special gift for our subscribers, take 25 percent off the ticket price with code BACKSTAGE. ($40)
