Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“Crazy Rich Asians”
It’s already got a sequel in the works, but could this summer’s biggest smash “Crazy Rich Asians” also be heading to the stage? In a recent interview with Variety, director Jon M. Chu discussed his dream plans for bringing the opulent show to Broadway as a musical adaptation: “Maybe we combine a Chinese singer with an Asian-American composer to put it together. We have a big band—the band is on the stage itself so you can experience it like you’re at a party. We would have the best fashion. Jason Wu comes in and designs everything. You make an experience for the audience. It would be ridiculous.” Now, obviously, it’s all just speculation at this point, but with the success of the first film and the anticipation of the sequel, producers could have their eyes on it. Plus, what a great opportunity to bring more Asian-American actors to the stage! In the meanwhile, you can keep an eye on casting for the films, which are staffed by Terri Taylor.
“Bad Boys 3”
When they say bad boys for life, they mean bad boys for life. After years of pushing for a third film in the “Bad Boys” franchise, it looks like, after a new draft of the script, the film may finally go into production in early 2019. Will Smith is already on board to reprise his role as Detective Mike Lowrey, and Martin Lawrence, though not on board yet, has been circling the project to reprise his role of Detective Marcus Burnett. Producers want the film to be in theaters by Martin Luther King Jr. weekend 2020. The first two films used different casting directors, so until the the film is officially greenlit, that role is up in the air.
“Irresistible”
Jon Stewart fans who miss his “Daily Show” style might be in luck. We’re not quite getting that back, but the comedian could soon have a new job: director of the upcoming political satire “Irresistible.” And it looks like the film may reunite Stewart with an old friend and collaborator: Steve Carell. The former “Daily Show” correspondent is allegedly the top choice to star in “Irresistible.” This will be the second film Stewart has directed, following 2014’s “Rosewater.” There, he used Jina Jay and Debra Zane, so he could return to them. Until then, we can hope some other former correspondents also join up on the story.
