It was reported last week that Harris was in talks to host the show, but the American Theatre Wing, which produces the event, would not confirm. Harris hosted the Tonys in 2009 to mostly positive reviews.
Though best known for his television work, Harris has appeared on Broadway in "Proof," "Cabaret," and "Assassins." He recently played the leading role of Bobby in the New York Philharmonic's concert presentation of Stephen Sondheim's "Company" at Lincoln Center.
This year's Tonys will take place June 12 at the Beacon Theatre in New York and will be broadcast live on CBS.
