The Jetsons will have to take a back seat because the Robinsons are about to go galactic again with Netflix’s remake of “Lost in Space.” The beloved family show may have had its heyday back in the groovy ’60s (and for a moment in the late '90s with the feature film adaptation), but the digital conglomerate has given a series order to their refurbished version of the family space saga. The project will follow closely in its predecessor’s footsteps and track the space-traveling Robinson family as they fall off course and are forced to battle alien environments and their own inner demons. While production on the first season’s 10-episodes won’t start until well into 2017, casting on the project is underway with the crew over at Automatic Sweat Casting. No actors are currently attached to the project, helmed by Zack Estrin, but announcements are expected to be made prior to the start of production. Vancouver will host the series that will air in the not too distant future of 2018.
What happens when a supreme athlete fails to nuzzle her way into the Olympic games? For real-life world-class skier Molly Bloom, a lot of not-so-nice things. Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin is stepping into the director’s chair for “Molly’s Game,” a film about the pro skier who stopped riding the slopes to start running the most exclusive high stakes poker game—which would eventually get her the personal attention of the FBI. Casting director Francine Maisler is rounding up an already impressive cast for the drama, with the always in-demand Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba the first to names announced for the project that begins shooting in the fall. A shooting location has yet to be announced, but Los Angeles is anticipated to host a majority of the poker-playing production.
If you’ve been suffering from a loss of Bruce Willis as a vengeful vigilante, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that Willis will headline “Death Wish,” a remake of the 1974 film starring Charles Bronson. The project follows a surgeon who starts fighting back, via his operational skills, to exact revenge on the people responsible for killing his wife and putting his daughter in a coma. The women over at Betty Mae Casting have already attached Willis to the action thriller, but are still casting for additional roles until the start of production at the beginning of September. Production will take place in both Chicago and Montreal.
