The New York International Fringe Festival announced the winners of its 2011 Overall Excellence Awards on Monday. "PigPen Presents: The Mountain Song" and "The More Loving One" both took the prize for overall production of a play, while "Pearl's Gone Blue" and "Yeast Nation (the triumph of life)," a musical by the Tony Award–winning writer-composers of "Urinetown," won the honor for overall production of a musical. An independent panel of nearly 50 theater professionals selected the recipients from among almost 200 shows.

Last week, the festival shuttered the final two days of performances, on Aug. 27 and 28, due to Hurricane Irene. The closing-night party, where the Overall Excellence Awards are traditionally announced, was also canceled. The winners were revealed online instead. The festival's Encore Series, which features encore performances of lauded productions and audience favorites, is scheduled for Sept. 9–26 at SoHo Playhouse and the Players Theatre.

Next year's festival is set for Aug. 10–26, 2012. Applications will be available online in November and are due Feb. 14, 2012. For more information, go to www.fringenyc.org.
