Your NYC Dance Calendar for Jan. 8–14, 2018

We are back in full swing after the holidays and have rounded up ways for you to both stay warm with plenty of dance activity and focus on some amazing self-care opportunities.

PERFORMANCES
Heidi Latsky Dance will be holding a free open rehearsal as part of APAP (Association of Performing Arts Professionals) at Baruch College, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. Industry professionals must RSVP by Jan. 9. Please email rishma@heidilatskydance.com to secure your spot.

Movement Research will be holding a free dance concert Jan. 8 at Judson Church. Artists include Beth Graczyk, lily bo shapiro, STAYCEE PEARL dance project, and Anna Westberg. (Free)

Arch Contemporary Ballet will be performing two ballets at APAP Jan. 13 at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Take this opportunity to see this company along with 23 other companies. (Tickets: $55)

BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance will be performing a selected excerpt of “Rose Walk Green Ice” at APAP Jan. 14 at New York City Center. (Free)

Blessed Unrest and New Ohio Theater present “Snow Queen,” based on the story of Hans Christian Andersen now through Jan. 14. This story of a fearless young woman on a quest to save her friend from a frozen world devoid of feelings features the group’s incredible signature physicality and modern humor. (Tickets: $25)

AUDITIONS
Reaction Dance Company is seeking dancers with hip-hop training for upcoming performances. Dancers must have experience in various cultural dance forms or be willing to learn. The audition will take place Jan. 9. Submit materials soon for consideration.

Shift Dance Collective is seeking new company members for their 2018 performances. Dancers must be well-trained and pick up movements quickly. All genres of performers are encouraged to apply!

Royal Caribbean Productions is seeking well-trained, dynamic, energetic dancers for their outstanding entertainment program. Their open casting call will take place Jan. 10. Please bring your current headshot and resume.

CHOREOGRAPHIC OPPORTUNITIES
Norte Maar will be hosting their 6th annual CounterPointe festival featuring female choreographers working on pointe. If you are interested in presenting a new work, apply soon as choreographers are chosen on a first come, first serve basis. Performers will be paired with a visual artist.

It’s your last chance to apply for IDACO Jan. 8! This festival will present works related to Italian culture, regardless of the artist’s origin. International choreographers welcome!

CLASSES + WORKSHOPS
Daria Faïn will be teaching her COREMOTION workshop through Movement Research Jan. 8–12. As used in her movement and performance approach, this workshop includes principles of QiGong as well as a guided exploration of the organs, emotions, sensory perceptions, energy and intellect. Since we are in winter, the focus will be on the water element of the kidneys and “life force.”

Tune into your habits, movement patterns, and nervous system through Feldenkrais at Movement Research Jan. 10. Taking the time to slow down and observe can do wonders for your dancing and help prevent injury.

Ever wanted to train in Italy? This summer, you can! Join the Tecniche Di Danza Moderna Summer Intensive in Rome for an incredible training experience abroad. Scholarships are still available so be sure to send in your materials. Auditions will take place throughout January.

DANCE-RELATED JOBS
Certified in Barre or Pilates? Loom Barre & Pilates, located in Bushwick, Brooklyn, is currently seeking instructors to join their team immediately.

Are you crazy about health and looking for some lucrative part-time work? Impact is seeking freelancers interested in becoming health brand ambassadors to give product demonstrations in local health food markets during the first quarter of 2018.

EVENTS
Gibney Dance will be hosting “DEEP: Get Healthy,” a free lecture on how to stay healthy as a dancer. Topics include health insurance, mental health, and injury prevention.
