NYC Dancers: Here’s What You Should Know About This Week 10/16–10/22

Are you falling for dance yet? Autumn in the city is a great time for finding new inspiration, teachers, and workshops, as well as viewing season premieres and attending company auditions. We’ve gathered plenty of information for you to leap in and get those creative vibes flowing.


Danspace Project presents “Shared Evening: Brother(hood) Dance! / J’Sun Howard” Oct. 19–21. This Chicago-based dance maker and poet aims to create dreamscapes that can represent a possible future world. Come enjoy this charismatic space for joy. Tickets and more information here.

“Hairitage” is seeking an African American female dancer/choreographer that will be able to choreograph six solo pieces for herself, as well as a simple routine for the cast. The dances should be modern, gospel, and hip-hop. Apply on Backstage!

The Graham Studio Series opens on Oct. 17 with a two-night event “NEW@Graham” to celebrate the ten year anniversary of the “Lamentation Variations.” These short commissioned works were inspired by Graham’s iconic solo, “Lamentation” and each night, five featured variations will be performed with a discussion with the artists afterward.
