Fall is rapidly approaching and auditions are sweeping in with it. We have gathered a variety of new classes for you to try, performances to be inspired by, and auditions to pencil in. Enjoy your week of dance!


New York Live Arts Theater presents FJK Dance Sept. 14 & 15 at 7:30 pm. Fadi J. Khoury’s choreography combines contemporary ballet movement with ballroom and tango, creating a unique fusion of culture and dance. Don’t miss their 2017 fall season kickoff. Grab your tickets here!

Maria Bauman/MBDance presents “dying and dying and dying” Sept. 1416 at 8 pm at Gibney Dance 280 Broadway. Tickets start at just $15. Grab them here!

As part of the 20172018 40th Anniversary Season at WP Theater, Monica Bill Barnes & Company presents their Off-Broadway debut “One Night Only (running as long as we can).” This finger snapping, athletic performance is happening seven times a week. STREB Extreme Action is seeking professional dancers/movers with an appetite for extreme action. You must be comfortable with extreme heights, impact, falls, and extreme aerobic activity and have strong ballet and modern technique. Auditions will take place Sept. 1315. More details here.

Forces of Nature Dance Theater seeks dancers proficient in various forms of West African and African American vernacular in preparation for their fall and winter season. The audition will take place Sept. 12 at St. Mark’s Church. More details and audition requirements here.

Choreographic Opportunities

Peridance Capezio Center’s APAP applications are now open through Oct. 1. Over twenty choreographers and dance companies will be presented the weekend of Jan. 1214. Apply here.

Apply by Sept. 10 to participate in the HATCH Presenting Series at Jennifer Muller/The Works’ Studio. This series showcases developing works and allows the audience and artists to interact and engage with one another. More details on how to apply here.


On Sept. 11, you will not want to miss the opportunity to attend The Table of Silence Project at Lincoln Center. Choreographed and conceived by Jacqulyn Buglisi, this multicultural performance ritual for peace and healing is performed by over 100 dancers, a beautiful scene that you will leave you breathless.

Join artists in residence at Gibney Dance 280 Broadway to kick off the Fall 2017 performance season! At this gathering, you will learn about the work being presented, upcoming performances, and toast to the new season with the Gibney Dance Community.

Classes + Workshops

Interested in filmmaking for dance? Check out Gibney’s DTI Tech Tuesday for some introductory techniques in dance filmmaking. Here you will learn fundamental tools to explore cinematic and choreographic concepts in dance film.

Enjoy an evening of Israeli folk dance at the historic 92nd Street Y. This open session includes open dancing and instruction of more advanced repertoire. This event will be ongoing every Wednesday. Sign up in advance here.

Guest teacher Denise Caston will be teaching Intermediate Broadway Style tap at Steps on Broadway from Sept. 6-27. Denise was a Radio City Rockette for 10 years, so if this is a career path that you aspire to, be sure to register for her class here.
