The characters from the popular television series and hit 90s movies “The Addams Family” are set to return to the stage. A new musical, first produced in 2010 and based on the beloved fictional family, is coming to the Candlelight Pavilion in Claremont, California, just east of Los Angeles. The production is currently casting all parts.
The musical adaptation draws inspiration from the Addams family’s origin in single-panel gag cartoons drawn by creator Charles Addams. The musical, with songs by Andrew Lippa (“Big Fish”) and a book by Marshall Brickman (“Annie Hall”) and Rick Elise (“Jersey Boys”), opened on Broadway in 2010. It has won numerous awards (Drama League, Drama Desk) and completed a national tour.
The production is currently auditioning talent for the cast, including the entire family. The Addams family is an eccentric, ghoulish clan of misfits with deep familial ties. This includes the reclining patriarch Gomez (male, aged 40–55) and stern matriarch Morticia (female, aged 40–50). Their children are the woeful Wednesday (female, aged 18–25) and the vicious Pugsley (male, aged 11–14). Extended family members include the incorrigible Uncle Fester (male, aged 50–60) and their spell-crafting Grandma (female, aged 50–65). Other roles include their servant Lurch (a six foot tall male, aged 25–55) and a chorus of ancestors (male and female).
There is an open casting call in Claremont, California on Aug. 21. Performers can also make an appointment to audition on Aug. 20. Rehearsals start Sept. 17 for a run from Oct. 19 to Nov. 24 at the Candlelight Pavilion. Performers cast in the production will receive a rehearsal stipend and a per-performance payment.
