As a first step toward launching a theatre school, Primary Stages Company will be offering a series of 10-week intensive courses this fall in playwriting, acting, producing, and on-camera technique. These classes will be taught by Casey Childs (founder and executive producer of Primary Stages), Andrew Leynse (artistic director), and Elliot Fox (managing director) along with other theatre professionals.
Scene study classes are designed for working actors along with beginners, who are also encouraged to take a course in on-camera acting techniques. The latter is taught by Linda and David Laundra, who ran the Writer's Theatre in New York for many years. Linda Laundra was a producer on CBS's The Guiding Light and produced and directed NBC's Another World.
A seminar focusing on producing Off-Broadway will be taught by Fox, who will bring in playwrights, directors, designers, and actors, among others to discuss their experiences.
Playwriting classes will be led by authors such as Julia Jordan, Andrew Case, David Caudle, Brooke Berman, and Rogelio Martinez.
Childs, who has helmed many new plays at Primary Stages and other Off-Broadway theatres, along with directing many television episodes (currently ABC's All My Children) will serve as director of the school.
