Legendary actor, singer, and dancer Rita Moreno will receive the 50th SAG Life Achievement Award, SAG-AFTRA has announced. The tribute is given annually to actors who promote the “finest ideals of the acting profession.”
Moreno, 81, won an Academy Award for her performance as Anita in “West Side Story,” and is one of 11 people to have won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. Moreno has appeared on Broadway since her debut at 13 in “Skydrift,” with highlights including “The Odd Couple” and “The Ritz.” Her films include classics such as “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Carnal Knowledge.”
“She is an extraordinarily versatile, talented and generous actor whose career is notable for its courageous choices and for the breadth, depth and quality of her many demanding and commanding roles,” SAG-AFTRA Co-President Ken Howard said in a written statement.
Moreno will receive SAG-AFTRA’s highest tribute Jan. 18 at the 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will be telecast live on TNT and TBS.
