The Rita Project has announced an upcoming benefit concert in early October that will feature performances by members of Altar Boyz, Rent, and Sweeney Todd.
The cast of Altar Boyz will join Karmine Alers, Jeremy Kushnier, and Frenchie Davis, of Rent, Tony Award nominee Manoel Felciano, as Tobias from Sweeney Todd, and nearly a dozen other performers from some of Broadway's most popular musicals. Marcus Choi and Robb Sapp, of Wicked, are also on the night's program.
The Rita Project was created in 2002 with the mission to help combat the tragedy of suicide, and to use the arts to help survivors of suicide. Kim Strouse founded the organization after her sister Kristin Rita Strouse, a freshman at Parsons The New School for Design, committed suicide.
Rita Project offers programs that foster healing, assists with suicide prevention education, and raises public awareness of the importance of the arts to mental health.
Piece from Rita Studio NYC will be on display in the lower lobby before the show.
The benefit will be held Oct. 4, at 7 p.m., at the Tishman Auditorium, 66 W. 12th St., between 5th and 6th avenues.
Tickets cost $10 with a student ID and $20 general admission, and will be available at 5 p.m. at the auditorium.
