“Hawkeye” Disney+ Echo Spinoff
It’s early days for the Disney+ “Hawkeye” series, and before audiences get to see even the first episode, it may already be getting a spinoff. According to Variety, a show centered on Echo, a Deaf Native American character who will be played by Alaqua Cox in the “Hawkeye” series, is in the early stages of development at Disney. Etan Cohen and Emily Cohen are reportedly attached to write and executive produce the show, with a writers’ room recently assembled. Marvel Studios will produce, but reps for the studio have declined to comment. The upcoming “Hawkeye” series stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Florence Pugh, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, and Zahn McClarnon. Sarah Finn is the casting director. “Ghost of Tsushima”
So far, so good for the Sony Pictures-Playstation Productions partnership as the two companies are teaming up for another film. Now in development is a film adaptation of the successful action-adventure game “Ghost of Tsushima” with Chad Stahelski (the “John Wick” franchise) attached to direct. Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, the game follows samurai warrior Jin Sakai, the last surviving member of his clan, who must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima. It is Playstation 4’s fastest-selling original property debut and was one of the top nominees for the Game Awards 2020 with several nominations. This will mark the second film to come out of the partnership between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, with the highly anticipated “Uncharted” currently in post-production and set to be released on February 11, 2022.
“The Rise and Fall of Little Voice”
First reported by Deadline, Miramax TV is partnering with Dominic Treadwell-Collins’s Happy Prince on a series adaptation of Jim Cartwright’s award-winning play “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.” The project, now in the works, will be adapted for TV by Cartwright and tells the story of “shy, working-class LV, who has the extraordinary ability to mimic the great singing divas of the 20th Century.” The play won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 1992 when it transferred to the West End and eventually to Broadway in 1994. Miramax TV will produce with ITV.
