Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“The Exorcist”
First reported by The Observer, David Gordon Green, the director of 2018’s “Halloween” and the remaining films in the new trilogy, is in talks to direct a sequel to the classic horror film “The Exorcist.” The new film would continue the relationship between Green and Blumhouse, who will produce the sequel. The original 1973 film, directed by William Friedkin, followed the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl. Friedkin will not be involved in the new project, and plot details for the new project are not known yet. If Green stays with his “Halloween” casting team for future scares, Terri Taylor might join the film as CD.
“Rubik’s Cube”
Some old-school nostalgia is coming to the big screen in maybe an unexpected way. Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment Group and Endeavor Content are reportedly teaming for a big feature take on the Rubik’s Cube, according to Deadline. While no details have been announced, Amritraj says he is looking forward “to creating a wonderful and complex Rubik’s universe.” Additionally, Hyde Park will be partnering with Glassman Media (“The Wall”) to create a game show based on the brand. No casting or creative team has been announced.
“Lords of Dogtown”
The 2005 Sony movie “Lords of Dogtown” might be shredding onto the small screen. IMDb TV is reportedly developing a TV series adaptation from Shawn Ryan’s MiddKid Productions and Sony Pictures TV. The movie’s director, Catherine Hardwicke, will executive produce the one-hour ensemble drama, which will be written by Kat Candler (“Queen Sugar”). The story will be set in the 1970s skateboarding scene in Southern California and be centered on a hell-raising teenage girl growing up in the foster care system [who] falls in with a crowd of skaters that idolize the famed Zephyr Skateboard Team. Victoria Thomas was the casting director for the film; a casting team for the series has yet to be announced.
