Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“Batwoman”
As if Greg Berlanti wasn’t doing enough already, we are now a little closer to a “Batwoman” series. According to Variety, the CW has put into development a series about the DC superhero that would debut in 2019 should it get picked up. Batwoman will be appearing in the annual “Arrow”-verse crossover event between “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Supergirl” and then will have the opportunity to be considered for her own show. LGBTQ fans can also rejoice, as this would make Batwoman the first lesbian superhero. Caroline Dries will serve as the writer and executive producer, one of her many projects on the network, including “The Vampire Diaries” and “Melrose Place.” Greg Berlanti always works with David Rapaport and Lyndsey Baldasare on his super CW projects, so, in addition to the dozen other shows the two have in progress, this will be another to watch out for out of their office. The Berlanti suite of CW projects tends to cast out of Los Angeles and film in Vancouver with Canadian casting happening on all the shows as well.
“Frozen 2”
We’ve all known since “Frozen” came to theaters Disney wouldn’t let it go and we would be getting a sequel, and, now, the casting for the upcoming film is getting a little bit closer to its completion. Sterling K. Brown and Evan Rachel Wood are currently in talks to join the sequel to the hit 2013 film, alongside returning cast Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Josh Gad. Original directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will be returning, as will Jamie Sparer Roberts as the casting director—keep an eye on her in case the project needs additional voices.
“Call of the Wild”
One of Hollywood’s biggest and most recognizable stars is ready for a new role—in an animated film. Harrison Ford is currently in negotiations to board Chris Sanders’ upcoming “Call of the Wild” from 20th Century Fox. The classic 1903 Jack London novel has spawned many adaptations, including films in 1935 and 1972, starring Clark Gable and Charlton Heston, respectively. This is not the first time Ford will have lent his voice to a character; he will also be featured in “The Secret Life of Pets 2.” Sanders has previously directed “The Croods,” “Lilo & Stitch,” and “How to Train Your Dragon.” He’s used Leslee Feldman on his Dreamworks films, so “Call of the Wild” will likely mark a their next collaboration.
“Dune”
Since his breakout role in 2017’s “Call Me By Your Name,” Timothée Chalamet has been a star to watch and he has quickly gone on to add projects to his resume. Currently, he’s being pursued for the upcoming Denis Villeneuve adaptation of “Dune.” The Academy Award-nominated actor is in talks to join the film, which will follow Paul Atreides, a man whose family assumes control of the desert planet that is the only producer of a highly-valuable resource. Villeneuve, who recently helmed “Blade Runner 2048,” will direct from a script by Eric Roth. Francine Maisler has worked on all of Villeneuve’s projects, so she’s likely also working on this project, as well.
