Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“Parasite” Series
Rumors have been floating around for the past month about who is going to lead the upcoming “Parasite” HBO series, and Mark Ruffalo is the name that keeps popping up. Reports were coming out in early February that the “Avengers” actor was being eyed by the cabler, but Ruffalo has been silent on the matter… until this week. During Chicago’s C2E2, he confirmed that he is, in fact, involved with the series and may be playing the Kim family patriarch made famous by Kang-ho Song. According to Ruffalo, he and director Bong Joon-ho have met and are now waiting on the script. As previously confirmed by Bong, the limited series will be an expanded film that “can delve deeper into the stories that didn’t make it into Parasite.” It’s unlikely Bong will bring his “Parasite” creative team back on to do this English-language series, but maybe keep an eye on his “Snowpiercer” and “Okja” casting director Jenny Jue.
“The Last of Us” Series
A hit PlayStation game will reportedly be the latest to head to the screen. First reported by The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has put into development a “The Last of Us” series from “Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin. Mazin is attached to write and executive produce the potential series alongside Neil Druckmann, the writer and creative director of the original game. This would be the first television series from PlayStation Productions, who is teaming up with Sony Pictures Television and game development studio Naughty Dog to bring the series to life. The hit game dropped in 2013 and centers on the relationship between a smuggler post-apocalypse and a teenager who may be the key to a cure for a deadly pandemic. No additional creative team has been assembled at this time, but Mazin could be looking to reunite his “Chernobyl” team, including casting director Nina Gold.
