Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“Black Widow”
Rachel Weisz and David Harbour are reportedly nearing roles in the world’s biggest film franchise. First reported by Variety, Weisz is in early talks to join Scarlett Johansson in the Marvel “Black Widow” standalone movie, as is “Stranger Things” star David Harbour. Cate Shortland will be directing the film from a script by Jac Schaeffer. Marvel has no comment on the potential casting decision, according to Variety, and there’s no word on which character either actor would play. Sarah Finn is, of course, the casting director.
“One Day At A Time”
In an age where shows, such as “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” seem to be canceled, only to be saved by another network, a recently-canceled Netflix favorite may soon be getting the same treatment. Weeks after the remake of Norman Lear’s “One Day At A Time” (starring Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Todd Grinnell, and Stephen Tobolowsky) was canceled by the streaming platform, CBS All Access has put in a bid to buy the show’s rights. The platform has shared its interest in the past when the show was on the verge of ending but now has made that interest official. Whether Netflix allows CBS to reboot the series has yet to be seen, but fans have gotten behind the show, making #SaveODAAT trend on Twitter. Telsey + Company were the casting directors behind Netflix’s iteration and could carry over if the show moves to CBS All Access.
“Megalopolis”
Francis Ford Coppola is ready to make his passion project: “Megalopolis.” The legendary director has been plotting the sprawling epic for years, he revealed to Deadline, and has begun to informally gauge interest from potential stars, including Jude Law. Coppola initially shot some second unit footage two decades ago before the terror attacks in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, but the ambitious film has been put on hold since. It is expected to be set in NYC and to follow “an architect’s attempt to create a utopia in the city that is combated by the mayor.” It sounds like there could be plenty of opportunities for NYC actors in this project when it finally comes to fruition. The director has used different CDs on his directorial projects so keep an ear out for announcements.
