Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“The Eternals”
The casting rumors for Marvel’s “The Eternals” continue to circulate. Salma Hayek is reportedly in early talks to join the Chloé Zhao—directed project, which is set to begin production later this year. Angelina Jolie also remains in talks to star, with no deal set yet, but Richard Madden and Kumail Nanjiani have officially signed on. Character details for Hayek’s role in question have yet to be revealed. Marvel’s usual casting director Sarah Finn leads this one, as well.
“Across the Void”
Skybound Entertainment, Circle of Confusion, and Universal Pictures are currently developing S.K. Vaughn’s sci-fi novel “Across the Void,” which doesn’t even hit shelves until July 2. The novel follows Commander Maryam “May” Knox and her fight for survival after she wakes up alone in a ruined spacecraft in Jupiter orbit and attempts to return to earth. Vaughn (who will write under his real name, Shane Kuhn) will adapt the book for the screen. It’s still early for the project, but depending on the response after the book is released, they could fast track production and casting could begin later this year.
“The Lincoln Lawyer”
Meanwhile, at CBS, the network has given a series production commitment to legal drama “The Lincoln Lawyer” from “The Practice” and “Big Little Lies” creator David E. Kelley. The drama will, of course, be based on the bestselling Michael Connelly novels and centers on Mickey Haller, “an iconoclastic idealist, who runs his law practice out of the back of his Lincoln Town Car, as he takes on cases big and small across Los Angeles.” Lionsgate TV had previously owned the rights for a “Lincoln Lawyer” series after its studio sibling produced the 2011 film of the same name starring Matthew McConaughey, but A+E Studios has since jumped to acquire the rights when they became available. At “Big Little Lies,” David Rubin runs casting, but likely will not follow Kelley to “The Lincoln Lawyer.”
“Doctor Doom”
Will we ever see Noah Hawley’s alleged “Doctor Doom” script? Sources, mainly Noah Hawley, say yes. The “Fargo” and “Legion” writer claimed back at Comic-Con in 2017 he was writing a “Doctor Doom” movie for Fox, but little has been heard since then. But in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hawley says talks are in progress and he still wants to make it, despite his busy schedule. Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox and its Marvel properties, including “Doom” might mess with the timeline, but Hawley says the anti-hero’s story is what “we want to hear right now.” If the Doctor ever makes it to the big screen, Finn could still likely be in charge of casting.
