Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room.
“Kill Them All”
After making history by becoming the first woman and first person of color directing a unit on a “Star Wars” film, Victoria Mahoney is near a deal for her next major feature. Mahoney, who was the second unit director on “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” is reportedly in negotiations with Paramount to make her big-studio feature directorial debut on “Kill Them All,” an adaptation of the graphic novel by Kyle Starks. With a script by James Coyne, “Kill Them All” follows a betrayed murderess on a revenge campaign and a hard-drinking former kip who team up to take down a crime lord. Mahoney made her directorial debut with “Yelling at the Sky” in 2012 and has since directed episodes “You,” “Power,” and the upcoming “Lovecraft Country.”
“Wolfman”
The Wolfman is close to evolving at Universal. The studio has been pushing to relaunch its monster universe, starting with its recent “The Invisible Man,” and now, it’s moving forward with “Wolfman,” with eyes on Ryan Gosling to star. According to Variety, Universal executives have been meeting with directors over the past month, and while there is no clear frontrunner at this time, Cory Finley (“Bad Education”) is one of the names in the mix for the job. Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Orange Is the New Black”) penned the script, which is based on an original pitch by Gosling. No plot details have been revealed.
“The Magus”
First reported by Variety, “Chernobyl” director Johan Renck is is in talks to direct another TV miniseries: “The Magus,” an adaptation of the John Fowles cult novel. Renck teased the news with an Instagram post of the book’s cover and the caption, “Something is brewing,” which was later confirmed by film producer Pippa Harris. It seems like the deal is nearly closed to get Renck on board; if so, he will be directing from a script by Tom Edge (“Judy,” “The Crown”). The film will be produced by Neal Street Productions led by Harris and Sam Mendes.
“Alien: Covenant 2”/“Prometheus 3”
In a recent conversation with The Los Angeles Times, Ridley Scott said he is considering doing a third “Prometheus” and a second “Alien” film that would reveal the secret origins of the derelict ship on LV-426. According to Scott, he believes “there’s a lot of mileage in “Alien,” but I think you’ll have to now reevolve.” Diving into an origin story seems like the best possible way to do that, so while the project is still in limbo, keep an eye out on “Covenant” casting director Carmen Cuba.
