Excited About Season 2 of ‘Russian Doll’? Apply to These Similar Gigs

“Russian Doll,” starring Emmy-nominated actress Natasha Lyonne, is finally back for a second season. The comedy-drama, co-created by Lyonne and Amy Poehler, debuted on Netflix back in 2019 and became an instant success with fans. Season 2 drops on April 20 and will continue to tell the story of Nadia, who keeps reliving her 36th birthday. To celebrate the show’s arrival, we decided to round up a few gigs that remind us of “Russian Doll.” From a short, dark comedy to a new feature film, check out these great gigs.  

“A Totally, Like, Completely Normal Breakup”

Casting is underway for a new short dark comedy film. Production wants male talent, aged 18–35, to play Caleb, who is unsure of himself and avoids conflict; female talent, aged 18–35, to play a jogger who becomes ill; female talent, aged 18–35, to play Melany, an outgoing and charming woman; and female talent, aged 18–35, to play Penelope, a jealous and skeptical woman. The film rehearses in the summer and films in the late summer/early fall. Pay is $200.

“American Sognare”

The feature film “American Sognare” needs talent. Production is seeking female talent, aged 21–34, to play Danielle, who secretly moved in with her boyfriend’s mother while she had cancer; female talent, aged 21–34, to play Bri, who breaks up with her boyfriend in the second half of the film; female talent, aged 21–34, to play Lorraine, who does drugs with one of the main characters at the funeral; and male talent, aged 50–70, to play Bri’s father. The film shoots August 3–11 in Westchester, New York. Pay is SAG Ultra Low Budget Minimum per day.

“Prosperity Lane”

Casting is underway for “Prosperity Lane.” This short film follows a woman who has two weeks to come up with rent money for the apartment of her dreams before she becomes homeless. Production is looking for talent for several roles. Shooting takes place April 9–10 in Nashville. Pay is between $50–$350 depending on the role. All meals are covered.

“All American” 

All American” is a one-act, 90-minute dark comedy premiering at the 2022 Hollywood Fringe Festival. The play is about two archetypal families living 50 years apart that transcend time and are forced to confront one another and deal with their cultural differences. Production is casting talent for several roles, including female lead talent, aged 40–55, male lead talent, aged 18–26, and more. Rehearsals run from April 4–June 1; preview runs June 4; performances run from June 12–25 at the McCadden Theater in Hollywood. Pay is a $100 stipend.
