The wait is over! On Jan. 7, the nominees for the 32nd Actor Awards—formerly the Screen Actors Guild Awards—were unveiled on Netflix’s YouTube channel. Janelle James (“Abbott Elementary”) and Connor Storrie (“Heated Rivalry”) announced the nominations for the best film and TV performances of the past year—and SAG-AFTRA members in good standing will soon have the opportunity to vote for their favorites in advance of the March 1 ceremony.
It’s no coincidence that SAG honors and Academy Award victories have a strong correlation since actors make up the Academy’s most substantial voting contingent. SAG ensemble champions, like “Oppenheimer,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “CODA,” and “Parasite,” often go on to claim best picture. And although last year’s SAG ensemble winner, “Conclave,” lost to “Anora” at the Academy Awards, supporting actor SAG winners Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldaña took home the coveted gold statuette.
This year’s film contenders span six categories: leading and supporting performances by male and female actors, the cast ensemble award, and recognition for stunt teams that bring the action to life.
