SAG-AFTRA, AMPTP May Talk Through July 4

Talks between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers could spill over into the 4th of July holiday.

Negotiations were extended for a third time Thursday, which means that SAG-AFTRA actors will spend at least another day working under their old contracts.

The parties gave themselves another midnight deadline but there is the possibility that negotiators will be at work as America celebrates Independence Day on Friday. No decision has been made yet about another extension, Backstage has learned.

The actors’ union is the last of the major Hollywood labor groups to sit down with the AMPTP; the Directors Guild of America and the Writers Guild of America having already reached deals. Both negotiations were cordial—at least in public—and concluded with plenty of time before the guilds' respective contracts with the producers expired.
