Alexis Frank Koczara and Christine Smith Shevchenko (Bones, In Plain Sight) have been appointed the new casting directors of ABC's Samantha Who?. The comedy starring Christina Applegate tapes at CBS Studio Center. Central Casting still handles background actors for the series.

Short and Sweet— and Funny

Organizers are accepting submissions for the 2009 L.A. Comedy Shorts film festival and L.A. Comedy Scripts screenplay competition, slated to take place March 6–8 in Los Angeles. Shorts must be 30 minutes or less; scripts can be short or feature length. Rolling deadlines are Oct. 3, Nov. 3, Dec. 3, and Dec. 19, 2008. Fees are $30–$70. The Golden Role

Casting director Nina Gold (Made of Honor, Eastern Promises) has been attached to cast the next installment of Disney's Narnia series, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Michael Apted (Coal Miner's Daughter, Enough) will direct; Ben Barnes, Peter Dinklage, and Eddie Izzard will reprise their featured roles. Shooting is scheduled to begin in January 2009 in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and Prague.

Don't Forget Your Festivus Pole

Deadlines are approaching for the second annual Festivus Film Festival, to be held Jan. 8–11, 2009, in Denver. Categories include narrative features and documentaries, shorts, experimental, animation, music videos, and short shorts. Juried awards are presented for each submission category. A Shot at Mamet

Casting director Annie Mulhall (27 Dresses) has been slated to cast The Prince of Providence, a drama co-written by David Mamet. Oliver Platt will star as Vincent A. "Buddy" Cianci, the former "rock star" mayor of Providence, R.I. Robin Williams, Edward Burns, and Dermot Mulroney co-star. Shooting will take place in Providence in 2009.
