“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” leads this year’s Saturn Awards with 15 nominations. “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Crimson Peak” tie for second with nine nominations apiece.

The latest installment in the “Star Wars” franchise garnered nominations in every eligible film category, including individual nods for director J.J. Abrams as well as actors Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, and Lupita Nyong’o.

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” leads nominations on the television side with seven, including nods for this week’s cover star Danai Gurira, Tovah Feldshuh, and Melissa McBride, while HBO’s “Game of Thrones” earned five. Netflix’s “Daredevil,” NBC’s “Hannibal,” CBS’ “Supergirl,” and Fox’s “Wayward Pines” follow with four nominations each.

The Saturn Awards created a new category this year, best new-media television series, which recognizes programs produced and streamed online. The inaugural nominees include Netflix’s “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” and “Sense8”; Amazon’s “The Man in the High Castle” and “Bosch”; and PlayStation/Crackle’s “Powers.”

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Film have presented the awards since 1972, which honor the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres.

The 42nd Saturn Awards will announce winners in June.
