Welcome to Rumorville! Here, you can learn about casting news that’s recently broken in Hollywood. Get a jump, and follow the trail all the way to the audition room.

The ever-busy Steven Spielberg is adding another project to his plate. Several outlets are reporting that Spielberg is developing an original story based on the iconic Steve McQueen’s character, Frank Bullitt. Along with this news, a new Vanity Fair feature on Jerry Falwell Jr. is currently in the works at Lionsgate. Want to know more about these two projects? We’ve got you covered. Here’s the latest on these exciting developments.

A New Steven Spielberg Movie Is In The Works

Spielberg apparently never sleeps. The famed filmmaker is not only in the victory stretch of Oscar season for his multi-nominated “West Side Story,” but is also in post-production for “The Fabelmans,” the long-discussed film based loosely on his own life. Now, it’s being reported that he is picking up another project, as well.

According to Deadline, Spielberg is developing an original story centered on Steve McQueen’s 1968 “Bullitt” character—Frank Bullitt himself. The filmmaker is attached to direct the picture and will also co-produce with Kristie Macosko Kriege. As of now, the project is still scriptless, although Josh Singer is on board to write, and deals are still being finalized, per Deadline. They also report that Warner Bros. will be the studio.

This new project has reportedly been in the works for a while—at least in Spielberg’s head. However, between negotiations with the McQueen estate and other projects, it was initially put on the backburner. At this moment, we don’t think it will be the next project for Spielberg with so much up in the air. So in the meanwhile—to get your Spielberg fix!—plan to watch “The Fabelmans” when it comes out on Thanksgiving 2022 or you can watch “West Side Story,” streaming on Disney+ and HBO Max.

As for a possible casting director for the new project, Spielberg used to be an Ellen Lewis purist, but there seems to have been a changing of the guard as he’s worked with Cindy Tolan on both “West Side Story” and “The Fablemans.” Stay tuned for more updates!

Lionsgate Is Developing A Jerry Falwell Jr. Series

First reported by Deadline, Lionsgate Television has optioned Gabriel Sherman’s recent Vanity Fair feature about Liberty University President Jerry Falwell. The project is being developed into a limited series. “The Loudest Voice in the Room” author will adapt and executive produce his own story for the screen, which “tells the story of the Trump-anointing dark prince of the Christian right who was brought down by a sex scandal.” Groundswell Productions will produce the series, with CEO Michael London commenting on the “untold story with a larger than life cast of characters amassing vast power and fortunes,” as well as the “insight and empathy that Gabe brings to their very human struggle to be true to themselves.” A timeline for the project has yet to be announced.
