The Uptown Players have announced a one-act playwriting competition for the upcoming Dallas Pride Performing Arts Festival.
Submissions must deal with issues or characters that identify as gay, lesbian, bixsexual, transgender, or include a gay sensibility.
One-act scripts entered in competition are required to be original, unpublished, and not previously produced for revenue. Plays must run at least 30 minutes, but no longer than 75 minutes. The contest is open to individuals who are at least 18 years old and reside in North Texas.
The contest is held in memory of long-time Uptown Players supporter and volunteer Perry Thompson, and will accept entries beginning April 23 with a May 2 deadline.
Two plays will be selected and produced for the Dallas Pride Performing Arts Festival in September. The People’s Choice winner will receive a cash prize of $250. Additionally, second place receives $500 and first place takes $1,000.
Submissions can be emailed as a PDF to 2016PrideWrite@gmail.com. Scripts should be written in play format and 12-point font. Plays selected for the final round will be informed before July 1. A nonrefundable $20 entry fee is required upon submission.
Visit the Uptown Players for more information on the contest.
