Sundance Fest Picks 73 Shorts

The 2006 Sundance Film Festival has selected a lineup of 73 short films from 4,327 submissions that will screen during the upcoming festival as part of its Short Film program.

The fest runs Jan. 19-29 in Park City.

The same short films, as well as festival highlights, also will be will be available at the Sundance Film Festival Online (www.sundance.org) from Jan. 19-June 19.

A total of 42 films are from the U.S. and 31 are international, representing 17 countries.

"As the tools required to create films have become more accessible, new voices have emerged, and short films are a place to discover some of the most creative and challenging work being done today," Sundance Film Festival director of programming John Cooper said.

A jury will award prizes based on outstanding achievement and merit in American and international short filmmaking less than 30 minutes.
