“The Code”
“Hamilton” alum Phillipa Soo is trading the stage for the screen. Best known as the original Eliza Schuyler in the Broadway hit “Hamilton,” Soo has nabbed not only her first pilot, but a series pickup—and is officially on board the CBS drama series “The Code.” The project follows a group of Marines operating from Quantico, Virginia, working to take on America’s most challenging legal cases. Trained in the three positions of law—prosecutor, defense lawyer, and investigator—the team strives to serve their country both at home and abroad. While nearly all the brilliant military minds are already cast, thanks to Mark Saks Casting, a few roles may be recast for the series run. Soo, Raffi Barsoumian, Anna Wood, and Ato Essandoh are among those signed on, with recasting likely for actors Mira Sorvino and Dave Annable. The pilot is already shot, and the remainder of the series wrap shooting in mid-March. New York City will host the first season’s production.
“Hightown”
“Hightown,” formerly known as “P-town” or “Provincetown,” is heading to Starz this fall. When a mysterious body washes up on the notoriously rich beaches of Cape Cod, an irreverent officer with the National Marine Fisheries Service finds herself consumed with helping the state police solve the case. With the help of a detective, the two set out to bust a deadly drug trade taking place in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Eric Dawson of Ulrich/Dawson/Kritzer Casting is already starting to assemble the show’s cast, which currently only includes Monica Raymund. Additional roles will be filled in advance of filming, which is on track to start in March. A shooting location is still pending, but it’s likely the series will film in Los Angeles.
“Happy Accident”
Secrets really have a way of bringing people together, but for a few families over on ABC, theirs will produce more of a collision. When a long-forgotten secret is unearthed, the lives of a father of three adult daughters and a hotel lounge singer with a son studying premed are forced together. With conflicting backgrounds, the two Pittsburgh-based families soon realize their new lives are a recipe for disaster. Casting is underway for the single camera comedy with Jeff Greenberg Casting, though no official announcements have been made regarding talent. A filming date and location have not been confirmed, but shooting will likely take place during the height of pilot season in early March in L.A.
