This Sunday marks the second most anticipated awards show of the year for musical theater lovers: the Academy Awards. For many of us, every passing awards ceremony is a reminder that the Tonys simply cannot come soon enough. So as you’re getting cozy with comfort food and PJs (secretly hoping that Chris Rock is wearing tap shoes), here are eight thoughts every musical theater lover has watching the Oscars.
1. We’re five minutes into the ceremony already! If this were the Tonys, there would have been at least seven musical numbers by now. Where is Neil Patrick Harris?
2. Crap! Was there a “Hamilton” lottery today?!
3.Remember when “Les Misérables” was nominated for best picture? Now THAT was an exciting time!
4. Dear Sam Smith: Write a musical.
5. Is this show severely lacking Laura Benanti or is it just me?
6. But that Brie Larson... I like her.
7. Sorry, but none of these people are going to top Audra McDonald’s epic final Tony moment.
8. This is fun, but... is it June 12 yet?
