Nominees for Broadway’s biggest night are here! On May 1, Tony winners Sarah Paulson (“Appropriate”) and Wendell Pierce (“Clybourne Park”) announced the nominations for the 78th Tony Awards, which recognize theatrical excellence in Broadway’s 2024–2025 season.

Three musicals tied this year for the most nominations, with 10 apiece: body-horror–comedy film adaptation “Death Becomes Her,” heartwarming helper-bot romance “Maybe Happy Ending,” and “Buena Vista Social Club,” which is inspired by the true story of a Cuban musical supergroup.

Audra McDonald made history with her best lead actress in a musical nod for “Gypsy.” It’s her 11th nomination, cementing her as the most Tony-nominated performer of all time. (Previously, she was tied with Chita Rivera and Julie Harris.) McDonald already holds the record for most Tony wins for acting at six.

Among this year’s first-time nominees are Cole Escola (best lead actor in a play for “Oh, Mary!”), Nicole Scherzinger (best lead actress in a musical for “Sunset Blvd.”), Sarah Snook (best lead actress in a play for “The Picture of Dorian Gray”), George Clooney (best lead actor in a play for “Good Night, and Good Luck”), Sadie Sink (best lead actress in a play for “John Proctor Is the Villain”), and Mia Farrow (best lead actress in a play for “The Roommate”).

In addition to the competitive categories, the Tony Awards Administration Committee also presents honors for Excellence in the Theatre. This year’s recipients include PBS’ “Great Performances” series, performing arts nonprofit New 42, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, and Goodspeed Musicals executive director Michael Price. The Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award will be presented to Tony winner Celia Keenan-Bolger (“To Kill a Mockingbird”), and the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre is going to four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein (“Torch Song Trilogy,” “La Cage Aux Folles,” “Hairspray”).

Tony winner Cynthia Erivo (“The Color Purple”) will host the 2025 ceremony, which takes place on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. The awards will be broadcasted live at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and stream on Paramount+. Here’s the full list of nominees.
