U.K. Now Casting: Play an Obsessed Theater Director in Short Film ‘Real Doll’ + 3 More Gigs

In today’s roundup, join the cast of “Real Doll,” a short film about an obsessed theater director who writes himself into his own play, much to the chagrin of the lead actor. There are also roles for actor-musicians in touring productions of Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” and “The Tempest,” and lead roles in a short film about grief and guilt, as well as a 1920s-themed musical.

Join the cast of “Real Doll,” a student film from the University of Gloucestershire about an obsessed theatre director who decides to write himself into his own play to form a relationship with his written character, much to the discomfort of the actress playing her. A male actor, aged 30–50, and a female actor, aged 25–35, are sought to play the lead roles of David and Nadia, respectively. There is also a supporting role for a male actor, aged 25-35. Upcoming productions of Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” and “The Tempest” are currently seeking talent, aged 18 and older, who can double as actors and musicians. Talent must have clean U.K. standard driving licenses, good stamina, touring experience, and must be prepared to build staging and lighting for each performance. Rehearsals will begin May 8 in Derby, U.K., with performances June 1–Aug. 28, touring the U.K. and Channel Islands. Equity-approved weekly wage, plus subsistence and holiday pay, will be provided. Casting is underway for “Climbing Trees,” a short film that follows the story of a tormented father, who, 12 years after the murder of a little girl, is struggling to come to terms with the release of the killer and his own feelings of guilt and responsibility. A male actor, aged 50–55, is wanted to play the lead role of Kris, a man whose life has taken its toll on him. There is also a supporting role for a female actor, aged 40–55. The film will shoot from April 20–May 19 in Birmingham, U.K. Pay is £50 per day. The lead role of Kris pays £400 total. Apply here!

Rah Rah Theatre Company is now casting a lead actor for the touring production of “Charleston,” a musical featuring flappers and gangsters who sing and dance their way through the fabulous 1920s. A male actor, aged 18–55, is sought to play Fat Sam, a big-time club owner who thinks he rules the world. The tour runs April 9–June 1, preceded by rehearsals late March or early April in New Malden, Surrey. Pay is £55 for rehearsals and £81 (on average) for shows. Apply here!
