"It was caught early by a routine yearly mammogram and is undergoing treatment," said Cameron. "All her doctors say she is in fantastic physical shape and should recover very well."
Novak, 77, also held notable roles in "Picnic," "Pal Joey" and "Bell, Book and Candle."
She last appeared in "Liebestraum" in 1991, but her scenes were cut after she battled with its director.
Of the film, Novak told the Seattle Post Intelligencer in 2004: "I got so burned out on that picture that I wanted to leave the business, but then if you wait long enough you think, 'Oh, I miss certain things.' The making of a movie is wonderful. What's difficult is afterward when you have to go around and try to sell it. The actual filming, when you have a good script -- which isn't often -- nothing beats it."
Cameron says that Novak maintains her health by working out three times a week with a trainer and riding horses daily.
She lives in Oregon with her husband, Dr. Robert Malloy.
In August, she was honored by American Cinematheque in a sold-out event.
