When you go to an audition, expect to be there an hour. Under SAG-AFTRA rules, first auditions and callbacks are allowed to be a full hour. After an hour, the performer is entitled to payment. Of course, if it’s a non-union job, then there are no time restrictions whatsoever. Oftentimes actors come to auditions and expect to get in and out. We try our best to get you in as fast as possible, and we make our schedules so that it’s very rare that someone ever has to wait that long, but sometimes there are factors not within our control that prevents a quick audition. For instance, there might be technical difficulty with the equipment or a client might make last minute changes in direction or to the scripts. Make sure you find a good parking spot and fill your meter completely. (You wouldn’t believe how many actors ask if they can skip ahead of other actors because of their meters!) The bottom line is that you must treat each audition like a job interview because it is. You will cut out so much of your own stress if you are prepared with the script and prepared to wait.
