Gal Gadot landed the coveted role of Wonder Woman after several auditions without realizing she was even up for the part in the first place.
Gadot talked about a casting process shrouded in secrecy for the upcoming film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” with Ellen DeGeneres.
“They said it was super, super confidential,” Gadot recalled on the show.
Gadot initially read a scene with director Zack Snyder and then went back home to Israel. She later received a call requesting her to return to the States and camera test opposite Ben Affleck.
Snyder asked Gadot about her familiarity with Wonder Woman, prior to the screen test. It then dawned upon Gadot she was up for the role.
“I went dead for five seconds, came back to life, and I tried to pull off my coolest voice saying, ‘Wonder Woman, yeah yeah, I’ve heard of her,’ ” Gadot said.
The actor, known for her roles sprinkled throughout the “Fast and Furious” franchise, auditioned with Affleck and finally heard back from her agents with the good news two weeks later.
“I feel like the luckiest girl in the world,” she said. Gadot is the first actor to portray Wonder Woman on the big screen. She mentioned it makes her feel good to portray a positive female role model on screen, especially for her 4-year-old daughter.
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is in theaters March 25. Gadot also stars in the solo “Wonder Woman” film, set for release in 2017.
