Like a true comedian, Melissa Rauch (“The Big Bang Theory”) is making fun of herself so we can all laugh.
Back in her red-white-and-blue warmup suit, she stars as fictional, third-place Olympic gymnast Hope Greggory, alongside real-life, former figure skater Tonya Harding, in a new viral video responding to the “soft opening” of the “The Bronze” last week.
The film has received mixed reviews, and when an “executive” points out that “some of the critics have been less than kind,” Hope responds, “That’s because the judges don’t like girls from the other side of the tracks, ain’t that right, Tonya?”
The meta exchange continues, highlighting the lack of demure female stereotypes in “The Bronze” and Hope’s polar opposite, aggressive personality.
The bit ends with a comment on the notorious compensation disparities between men and women in Hollywood and beyond.
“Better not find out Brad Cooper’s making more than me,” Hope adds about the actor (who does not feature in the film). “I find out I’m making 78 cents to Cooper’s dollar, I’m coming after you.”
“We both are,” Harding adds.
It was announced earlier this week that Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) will play the disgraced Olympian in upcoming biopic, “I, Tonya.”
“The Bronze,” also starring Gary Cole, Thomas Middleditch, Sebastian Stan, and Haley Lu Richardson, is out in theaters now.
