Steve Martin has been full of surprises lately! The legendary comedian and actor first hit the stage for a standup routine with Jerry Seinfeld last month—it marked his first set in 35 years. And last night, he broke out into some silly song and dance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“I don’t want to do this show,” Martin first laments. “I’ve got no more material; I don’t want to do this show.”

You see, he used up all his stories in his 40s and only agreed to come on Feb. 29 because he thought that date didn’t exist. “Damn you leap year!”

“Now I must go out there and sit in the velvet chair, and ask him about his wife and kids and pretend as if I care,” he sings. “I don’t care! No one cares!”

Thankfully, Martin bites the bullet (and his tongue), sets he shoulders straight, and joins musician and collaborator Edie Brickell to chat about their new Broadway musical “Bright Star,” and to reflect on his recent stand-up stint with Seinfeld. Watch both clips below!

“Bright Star,” a sweeping, early 20th century romance set in the American South, is now in previews and opens at the Cort Theatre March 24.
