Untitled James Comey Miniseries
Jeff Daniels is about to head to Capitol Hill. The actor, who is wrapping up a Tony-nominated run in “To Kill a Mockingbird” on Broadway, will step into the not-too-distant past to play former FBI Director James Comey in Billy Ray’s upcoming project based on Comey’s 2018 book, “A Higher Loyalty.” The four-hour miniseries has yet to be named but has managed to stack up a promising cast to play real-life counterparts, including Donald Trump, who will be played by Irish actor Brendan Gleeson. Joining Gleeson are Michael Kelly as Andrew McCabe and Jennifer Ehle as Patrice Comey. The memoir chronicles Comey’s career in the FBI, giving special focus to his time as director during the 2016 presidential election. The miniseries is said to closely follow the book, which also recounts Trump’s firing of Comey and the subsequent media-frenzied hearing that put a spotlight on his controversial investigation during the election. The miniseries is at CBS Television Studios, but decisions are still being made as to which of the network’s entities, Showtime or CBS All Access, will air the project. While many of the lead roles are already cast, Bialy/Thomas is on board to add additional actors to the production. The drama is set to start shooting in November in Toronto and Washington, D.C., and carry through the winter. No filming location has been officially announced.

“Happiest Season”
Kristen Stewart is looking for Ms. Right in her next project, the Sony film “Happiest Season.” The project will follow a couple as they look to take things to the next level. When the woman hatches a plan to propose to her partner at her future in-laws’ holiday party, she ends up hitting a major snag—while down on one knee, the woman accidentally outs her partner in front of her conservative parents, who had no idea about their relationship. The project, cast by Rich Delia, will also star Mackenzie Davis. The film was co-written by “Veep” alums Mary Holland and Clea DuVall, the latter of whom will also direct the romantic comedy. The production is set to start filming in January 2020 in Pittsburgh.

“Fear the Night”
There’s nothing like a fun night out celebrating the impending nuptials of a close friend, but for one group of women it’s bound to be more frightful than fun. As the women give their friend a fond sendoff with an in-house chef and a plethora of spa treatments, they soon find their good time going awry with the introduction of some shady townies. Neil LaBute, who wrote the script, will direct the thriller. No actors are currently attached, but Kromer Casting is lining up talent for the film. Production will take place in New York and New Jersey.
