Houston-based actor Chris Nieten knows there are acting opportunities both in and outside his city, which is why he uses Backstage to find gigs all across the Lone Star State.
Try to fend off discouragement.
“Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get any auditions or roles right off the bat. Keep trying, and keep finding ways to improve yourself. Also, remember: Even if you’re not selected for a particular role, you may be considered for a role in [the creative team’s future] projects.”
Widen your pursuits—literally.
“I live in Houston, Texas, [and] I have a special saved search for auditions within 250 miles. That allows me to search in Austin and Dallas, as well. If you can’t find auditions in your immediate area, try expanding your search.”
Backstage is ideal for the actor-on-the-go.
“I am on Backstage at least five times a week. Since I always have my phone on me, I usually use the iPhone app. After your profile is set up, applying to parts is super easy.”
There is always more knowledge to be gained.
“Apply to every role that you want, and use as much of the information provided on Backstage as possible. The information on Backstage helped me choose a photographer, gave me tips for my acting résumé, and even some dos and don’ts while I’m on set. You can always find something useful within an article or the knowledge base.”
Support your fellow actors and they’ll support you back.
“I have had a couple of casting directors on Backstage invite me to audition for other projects that they are working on. I am also ‘friends’ on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter with several of the actors that I have worked with. We talk about our new projects every now and then and cheer each other on.”
