The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and DreamWorks are teaming up with the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles to bring aspiring musical theater geeks a prime shot at getting their nascent work seen.

The three-day 2016 ASCAP Foundation/DreamWorks Musical Theatre Workshop, running Feb. 16–18, features various workshops with industry professionals from behind some of the theater world’s biggest and most well-known stages. Past panel participants included Tony Award-winning lyricists such as Sheldon Harnick (“Fiddler on the Roof”), Lynn Ahrens (“Ragtime”), and others from the likes of “Urinetown,” “Drood,” and “City of Angeles.”

“We are delighted to join ASCAP and DreamWorks in this forward-looking program that encourages the next generation of musical theater artists,” said Paul Crewes, newly appointed artistic director of the Wallis, in a statement. “This alliance is a perfect example of our three organizations’ commitment and dedication to furthering arts education and our continued encouragement of the development of new creative musical works by emerging artists.”

In order to be considered, applicants should submit a short summary of their original musical; a CD of four songs; lyric sheets for each song, as well as a brief description of their place in the plot; bios for each composer, lyricist, and bookwriter; email addresses, phone numbers, and mailing addresses. Songs do not need to be professionally produced.

Deadline to apply is Dec. 16, and those who have been chosen to participate will be notified by Jan. 15. If selected, be ready to present 50 consecutive minutes of material from your original musical.

Submissions should be sent to:
