Have you registered yet for the 2016 Hollywood Fringe Festival? You have until April 1 to do so! Now in its seventh year, Los Angeles’ largest celebration of the performing arts hits central Hollywood once again June 9–26.
There are three steps to registering for this year’s festival, so plan accordingly. You first have to make an account at hollywoodfringe.org and create your project. The idea here is to get your ideas on the public drawing board and spark creation and collaboration with fellow Fringe artists. Prospective artists are limited only to their imaginations, so the sky is the limit!
Secondly, you want to secure your venue, which Hollywood Fringe makes much easier by publishing a list of venues interested in hosting Fringe events. Artists are also encouraged to create and register their own venues. “There is nothing Fringier than finding some abandoned warehouse, loft space, or storefront and temporarily converting it into a Fringe venue,” its site boasts.
From there, the venue—in collaboration with the involved artists—must propose a deal with Hollywood Fringe. Once that’s created, artists pay the $250 registration fee (or $175 if the project is a free show or a single-performance show). Then you’re good to go!
To learn more about registration before diving into the process, the Hollywood Fringe is hosting Town Hall and Workshop discussions, which can be viewed on their YouTube page if you can’t make it in the flesh. The second workshop, titled Money & Promotion, is scheduled for Saturday, March 18 from 2–4 p.m. Find a full schedule of these informative sessions here.
