The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has included Broadway numbers almost every year since 1980. This year, the casts of “Annie,” “Bring it On,” “Elf,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” and “Cinderella” will perform.

In honor of the Thanksgiving must-watch event, we took a look at some of our favorite past parade performances.

The Broadway cast of HAIR graced the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2009. Led by Sasha Allen, the cast performed the hit song “Aquarius." They might have been cold, wearing those shirtless costumes in late November, had not it been for the warmth of the holiday season.

In 2003, the year that “Wicked” opened on Broadway, its green-clad cast appeared in the parade. Performing the song “One Short Day,” the actors’ Emerald City costumes certainly fit in with the holiday spirit. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth star respectively as Elphaba and Galinda, two best friends on a journey to meet the Wizard of Oz.

“Mary Poppins”

Did you know that “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” is the longest one-word title in the history of music? Though it’s awkward to say, it sounded great when sung by the cast of “Mary Poppins” at the parade in 2007. Ashley Brown starred as Mary Poppins, and Gavin Lee played her chimney sweeping love interest, Bert.

“Legally Blonde”

The cast of “Legally Blonde” also performed in 2007, but not without a little legal trouble of their own. The “Legally Blonde” stagehands were members of a union that was on strike at the time, and so no one was around to properly outfit the performers. Instead of their normal Broadway costumes, the cast—starring Laura Bell Bundy as Elle Woods—performed in the “Legally Blonde” logo t-shirts, and used makeshift props!

In 2011, the young cast of “Newsies” took the stage at the parade, singing the show’s hit song, “King of New York.” This lively ensemble performance totally embodied the energy of the whole parade.

“Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”

Nothing says good ole American Thanksgiving like a bunch of drag queens singing songs from the 70s and dancing with actors in kangaroo costumes, right? In 2011, the cast of “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” took the stage at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, singing a medley of disco tunes including “I Love the Nightlife” and “I Will Survive.” Their costumes were certainly as colorful as the show’s delightfully flamboyant characters.
