'Alias,' 'Starsky & Hutch' Headed to Game Screens

Reaching deep into the well of TV history, video game publisher Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. on Monday said it was developing a game based on the classic series "Starsky & Hutch."

New York-based Take-Two said the game, under development for this fall by its Gotham Games label, would put players in 1970s bell-bottom pants and let them loose to fight crime in the fictional Bay City.

One of the most kitschy icons of the 1970s, Antonio Fargas's street-wise character "Huggy Bear," will also appear in the game, and Take-Two said Fargas was providing the voice for the game character.

A movie version of the TV series is currently in production, starring Ben Stiller as Starsky, Owen Wilson as Hutch and rapper Snoop Dogg as Huggy Bear.

In yet another TV-to-games deal, Acclaim Entertainment Inc. said on Monday it had locked up the entire cast of the drama "Alias" for its previously announced game.

The game, coming this fall and based on the Walt Disney Co. -owned ABC series of the same name, will feature the voices of series stars Jennifer Garner and Victor Garber, among others.

Deals for games based on TV series, and vice-versa, are growing but still less common than the emerging ties between the games business and the movie industry.

A number of games based on movies and movie concepts are expected to be shown this week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, the industry convention in Los Angeles.
