The awards season race got a huge jolt of energy in the wee hours of Dec. 9.

Announced at the SilverScreen Theater in West Hollywood by Anna Faris and Anthony Mackie, the nominees for the 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards recognized the best film and TV performances of the year. Among the well-deserving nominees were Backstage cover stars Brie Larson in “Room,” Saoirse Ronan in “Brooklyn,” and Sarah Silverman in “I Smile Back” for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role, and on the TV side, Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright in “House of Cards,” Jim Parsons in “The Big Bang Theory,” Uzo Aduba in “Orange Is the New Black,” and Queen Latifah in the HBO movie “Bessie.” Idris Elba and Helen Mirren led the movie actors with three nominees apiece, while leading the TV race are “Game of Thrones,” “Homeland,” and “House of Cards,” each also with three nods.

To be held Jan. 30, the SAG Awards will be voted on by over 110,000 members of the SAG-AFTRA union. The recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award will be Carol Burnett.
