Gateway Candlewood International is the largest set and properties rental company on the East Coast, and offers one-stop set shopping. The company is an ancillary arm of Gateway's Candlewood Playhouse, based in New Fairfield, Conn., and works in conjunction with Costume World of Pompano Beach, Fla.
Gateway owns its tractor-trailer equipment, stores sets and props between engagements, and provides a technician to supervise load-in and load-out. The renting theatre saves on the usual loading and unloading charges, needing to hire only a production crew for set-up and show.
Since Gateway stores pictures of sets and props on computer, interested theatres can easily preview a show's look and technical requirements prior to rental. An average set agreement includes trucking, rental, and tech coordination for about $10,000 per week. Their toll-free number is (888) 4TIX-NOW.
