Bistro Bits - Like Sister, Like Mother

Kelly Curtis--sister of Jamie Lee Curtis, and daughter of Janet Leigh--will appear in "The Last Manhattan" at the Theatre Row Theatre, Jan. 16-Feb. 2 (Thursdays through Sundays). Doug Dunlop's play is about a frustrated novelist who meets up with the spirit of "RB, the last of the Manhattan Indians." A staged reading of the new Cy Coleman musical "The Life" was given last month at the New Victory Theater, with Vernel Bagneris, Lillias White, Chuck Cooper, Pamela Isaacs, Michael McElroy, Gretchen Mol, and John Schiappa among the performers. And a group sales presentation of Maury Yeston's "Titanic" musical, set to begin performances at the Lunt-Fontanne in March, boasted a cast including Victoria Clark, Hugh Panaro, Jeff Blumenkrantz, Brian d'Arcy James, Kay Walbye, and David Campbell. But no Broadway casting for either show has yet been announced, and "The Life" still isn't sure where or when it's opening.

Dixie Carter will replace Patti LuPone as Maria Callas in "Master Class," the Terrence McNally play at the Golden Theatre, beginning Jan. 31. Though best known for her role of Julia Sugarbaker on the TV series "Designing Women," Carter has a lengthy list of stage credits, including work at the Public Theatre and on Broadway.
