Casting directors are seeking local Louisiana talent to work with actor Matthew McConaughey on the feature film “The Dallas Buyers Club,” a 1980s-set AIDS drama which is now shooting in New Orleans.

Loosely based on true events, “The Dallas Buyers Club” stars McConaughey as Ron Woodruff, a hard-partying and homophobic Texan who is told he has six months to live when diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in the mid-’80s. But he spends the next six years smuggling alternative medicine into the U.S. to help himself and other AIDS patients, while fighting death and the Food and Drug Administration.

The cast also includes Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner. Jean-Marc Vallee (“The Young Victoria,” “C.R.A.Z.Y.”) is directing. Production began this week and will continue through December in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge area.

The Casting Office is seeking females of all ethnicities between ages 23-35 for speaking roles as “DBC Girls.” Actors cast in these roles “must be comfortable with nudity,” according to the casting director.

The casting director is also casting background talent of various types, including adult men of all ethnicities who “must have 1980s-period mustaches and facial hair” to match the era. Adult Hispanic and Japanese extras, “very skinny” people, and adult males and females who can portray gay couples are also needed.

For more information and to apply, view the full casting notices online at All submissions should include the actor’s name, age, contact info, and a recent photo. The casting director also notes, “This film is set in the 1980s and you will be more likely to be chosen if you consider this in your appearance.” Background talent with unaltered period vehicles (made between the late 1960s and 1986) should also submit a photo of their vehicle.

The Casting Office casts principal roles, stand-ins, and extras in the Southeast. Casting director Tracy Kilpatrick’s credits include “True Grit,” “No Country for Old Men,” “A Good Old Fashioned Orgy,” the HBO miniseries “John Adams,” and the upcoming film “The Hot Flashes.”

Casting director Rich Delia is casting principal roles in “The Dallas Buyers Club.” Delia is a casting associate at Barden/Schnee Casting, where his previous feature film credits include “The Help,” “Mirror Mirror,” “Compliance,” “Pitch Perfect,” and the upcoming films “Better Living Through Chemistry,” “Admission,” and “August: Osage County.”
