Chorus Calls Announced for 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' Musical
Tara Rubin Casting is holding auditions in New York for "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots," the new stage musical based on the Flaming Lips' 2002 album of the same name that will make its debut later this year at the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, Calif.

The world premiere musical, which has been in the works for at least five years and once had Aaron Sorkin ("The Newsroom," "The Social Network") attached as a writer, will be directed by Des McAnuff, who co-wrote the book with Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. Because "Yoshimi" was not originally written as a concept album, the musical will also feature songs from other Flaming Lips albums including "The Soft Bulletin" and "At War with the Mystics."

McAnuff and Coyne's story is about a young Japanese artist who journeys into a fantastical robot world, where she must contend with a host of evil forces and wages a war against fate. The production will feature multimedia stage effects. Rehearsals begin Tuesday, Sept. 18. and the show runs from Tuesday, Nov. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 16.

Rubin is seeking male and female singers and dancers for the ensemble. The dance style is a mix of contemporary/modern and "street" hip-hop. Singers should also be strong dancers, and dancers should also be strong singer-actors. Martial arts and/or puppeteering experience is a plus for all roles.

Equity chorus calls for dancers will be held Monday, July 16, in New York City. Equity chorus calls for singers will be held Tuesday, July 17, in New York City.
